Newborn Photoshoots with Victoria J Photography- What to Expect

Finding the right photographer for you is so important, especially when it is to capture images of your tiny new baby!! For many new parents, their newborn photoshoot is the first time they leave the house with their little one. Having had 2 children myself, I understand how daunting this can be, especially with your first baby.

With this in mind, I thought it would be helpful to share with you what you can expect from a newborn photoshoot with Victoria J Photography- from your initial enquiry through to the viewing session.

When to Book

Newborn photography is hugely popular and spaces often book up well in advance. I suggest to expectant parents that they book just after their 20 week scan to secure a newborn session before their baby is 2 weeks old. Because babies are so unpredictable and will most of the time arrive when they like, I initially book clients in for their due date. Then once little one arrives we arrange a date and time that is convenient.

Preparing for your Session

Once we have your session booked in I will send you my session guide full of little tips to help you prepare for your newborn session. We will also discuss the types of images you would like to create during the session (awake shots, sleepy poses, parent shots, sibling shots, prop shots etc). We will also discuss the colours that you have throughout your home already and plan colours and sets that will compliment the decor. It is at this point I would ask you to consider how you would like to display the images. Prints come with all the packages I offer but nothing displays an image as beautifully as wall art- be it acrylic prints, canvases or framed images. I will then plan your session to your requirements.

The Newborn Photoshoot

All photoshoots take place at my cosy home studio in Bayston Hill. I pride myself on the relaxed nature of my photoshoots. Whilst we set a time for your shoot, from my own experience I understand that babies wait until you are ready to leave the house before they announce that they are hungry or need a nappy change. I only book one newborn session per day to allow for slight delays and to allow us to complete the session at baby’s pace. Plenty of time is available for settling, feeding and cuddles and of course you will have plenty of time to relax whilst I capture some precious memories for you.

There may be a handful of shots which we need to composite (take two images of baby with parents hands supporting and put them together in post production), in which case I will ask a parent to lend a hand, but for the most part, you can sit back and relax.

We will capture a variety of images at your session. We will capture posed images on a fabric backdrop (on top of a posing beanbag), prop shots, parent shots, sibling shots and a selection of black and white images to result in a beautiful gallery of approximately 20 images.

Your session will take between 2-4 hours. Once your session is complete I will fully edit your images before welcoming you back to the studio for your viewing session. This usually takes place 1-2 weeks after your photoshoot.

The viewing session

I love welcoming clients back to view their images. I love seeing the reactions to first viewing the photos and the emotions that the images spark in new parents. Its also lovely to see how babies have changed in just 1-2 weeks since their photoshoot.

At your viewing session I will show you the slideshow of fully edited images. This will be put the music and will show you all the images in your gallery. This slideshow is included in the ‘Bright Eyes Package’. Once you have viewed your images it is then that you decide which package option you would like to go for. Most clients choose to purchase all the images but for those that decide 5 or 10 images is enough, we will then go through each image and select the favourites. I am also able to help you decide on wall art choices, you are able to view samples and decide which pieces would best suit your home.

After you have decided on the package/images/wall art I make any final edits to your images and get your prints and wall art ordered. Depending on the order, delivery times can take between 1-3 weeks. Once your order is ready for collection I will contact you and you can display your images proudly on the walls of your home <3
